Seventh Sunday of Easter

Dear Friends,

In todays Gospel, Jesus is praying a prayer that transcends time, reaching out to all those who follow Him. Jesus prayers five different prayers in this gospel for us.

He prays for unity with His disciples, that they may be united as He is with the Father, not just in superficial agreement but in a deep understanding of the mission and purpose of the Christian life. Jesus prays for joy in the faith of His followers. He desires that this joy sustains them through the struggles of everyday Christian life, providing them with strength and perseverance. He petitions for protection from the evil one, making His disciples aware of the spiritual battle they face. Jesus wants His followers to be prepared and reliant on the Father for protection, not only for themselves but also for others. He prays for His disciples to be Consecrated in the Truth, urging them to engage with scriptures like this passage and to continually immerse themselves in the renewing love and truth of God. Finally, Jesus offers a prayer for the unity of the world, longing for all people to experience the love of the Father revealed in Christ.

It’s truly amazing that the Lord considered all His believers and offered a prayer to the Father to aid us, even when we are unaware of it. Let us spend time praying about these five different prayers Jesus prayed for us and enter into each one of them. He desires for us to enter this prayer with Him, to be part of His community of believers, and to share in the love of the Trinity: Now, Always, and Forever.
