Seventh Sunday of Easter
Dear Friends,
How often do you think of eternal life? What do you imagine it will be like? Jesus says in today's Gospel: "This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one you sent, Jesus Christ" (Jn 17: 3) It's so difficult for us to imagine what this means! Eternal life will be true communion, knowing the Holy Trinity. We will be so immersed in love for God is love (1 Jn 4:8). When we consider that what we do here and now on this Earth will affect eternal life, it's good to reflect on what we are choosing and why we are choosing it. To follow Christ is not easy, there are demands made of every Christian that require sacrifice. Life can sometimes seem so chaotic and complicated and overwhelming so what a contrast to hear Jesus tell us the simplicity of eternal life. To really know God.
I pray that we may take advantage of our time on this earth, seeking the Lord and communion with Him as much as possible. When the time for eternal life comes, I've always hoped that the first feeling I would experience is familiarity. This is the Holy Trinity that I know and love! This is the person (persons) that I've sat with and talked to for hours during the course of my life. The God that knows me so well and that I have sought to know as well. And in eternal life, the truest form of knowing that is possible! Let's take some time this week to intentionally know the Lord and choose Him in our hearts so that we can continue doing so into eternal life.
God bless you!
