Easter Sunday: The Resurrection of the Lord

HE IS RISEN! It is the day of our risen Lord! Easter is the most important day in the Church because of the miracle of our Lord coming back to life after dying on the cross. The day itself is the backbone of all of Christianity! A prophecy that Jesus himself foretold, this day of resurrection symbolizes new life and new beginnings. With the celebration of Easter we are celebrating the conquering of all sin and death.

Easter is associated with Peeps, chocolate bunnies, and colored eggs, but the true source of joy this weekend (at least for us Christians) comes from the fulfillment of the resurrection. For days now we have sat, waited, and prayed right alongside the disciples in hope to see Jesus live again, and now we can rejoice because God has provided. How wonderful it was that Mary Magdalene was the first to see proof of Jesus’ resurrection. Like how Mary Magdalene runs from the tomb, we must run to spread the good news. God has trusted us with the news of this miracle to use in witness of Him. As followers of Christ we are now called to evangelize so that others may feel this same fulfilling and abundant joy which can only be found through God the Father.

With the lighting of the Paschal candle last night, we show how Jesus is our divine guiding light. Because of Him, we are now saved. With Jesus’ life of ministry echoing in the background, Easter is such a great time to look at our lives with a sense of renewal. The Lord has saved us and granted us eternal life with Him in heaven, so what are some ways that we can go forth in praise of Him? Again, looking at this time as a time of renewal, are there places where we can hit restart and look at things with a fresh outlook? Petty grievances look small when you see all that God has done for us on this wonderful day.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” ~John 3:16

Well today “Christ is risen. He is risen indeed!” so let’s celebrate!
