Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, 8/8
Dear friends,
Today’s Gospel is taken from John 6: 41-51. We are still contemplating the Bread of Life Discourse. Jesus saying "I am the Bread of Life... I am the Bread that came down from Heaven... I am the Living Bread... whoever eats this Bread will live forever!!”
The reaction of the crowds is of shock, scandal and murmuring. They cannot bear the truth that an apparent simple man like them can be at the same time The Everlasting Life that has come down from Heaven. You and I are frequently tempted with lack of faith, with coldness and dryness in our hearts. It is hard to believe that God can be so accessible, so close, so in love with us to the point of becoming a tiny and fragile piece of bread. Seems too incredible to believe. But how does our struggle to trust and surrender affect the Heart of Jesus? What is His reaction in the face of our indifference, distractions, relativism, or whatever draws us apart from Him?
Take a look at this Gospel passage to contemplate His reaction. He will insist gently, He will keep on trying to allure you, to stir up your longings for true life and true love. Look how He does it… He will never give up. Although He says we are hungry for true joy, life, peace, meaning, the reality is that He is even more hungry for your trust, for you to open a bit more the doors of your soul to Him.
Have a happy eucharistic Sunday, and a happy eucharistic life!!
