The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, 11/22
Dear friends!
Today’s liturgy invites us to fix our gaze and our hearts on Christ, King of the Universe. God is calling us to contemplate his power and immense glory, just as He will present Himself at his second coming. This is also the last Sunday of the liturgical year, and that is why it draws our attention to the end of times, towards the consummation of the whole universe, were the final judgment will occur. This is also why the Gospel describes the great parable of the final judgment in Matthew 25. What does this Mighty King of the parable requires from us? He says: “Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink...” (25:34-36). The Mighty King that will to judge us all requires compassion, closeness and tenderness. These are the rule of life for us also, and on this basis we will be judged.
The starting point of salvation is not the confession of the sovereignty of Christ, but rather the imitation of Jesus’ works of mercy. The one who accomplishes the works of mercy shows that he has welcomed Christ’s sovereignty, because he has opened his heart to God’s charity. Brothers and sisters, in the twilight of life we will be judged on our love for, closeness to and tenderness towards our brothers and sisters. Let us be creative in love of God and our neighbor, without holding back to serving the least and destitute, the sick and elderly, even those whom we might seem repulsive to us.
Today, we say yes to His Kingdom, yes to our eternal blessedness, to our abiding peace and joy!! We love you King of our Hearts, King of the Universe!!
